Born in Flemington, David was raised in Delaware Township, where he attended Delaware Township School and learned to embrace the outdoors, his obituary says.

David was described as a “gentle soul, kind to everyone he met,” though he still loved exhilarating activities like mountain biking and camping.

He could also often be found cooking, gardening, or learning about history through novels and movies, his memorial says.

David is survived by his loving parents, Susan and Edward Barnes; his brothers, Kevin Barnes and wife Emily, Michael Barnes, and Chris Barnes and wife Lynn; his fiancé, Kathy Boroska Sweeney and her children; his maternal grandfather, Charles Higgins and wife LanFen; his paternal grandfather, Edward Barnes Sr.; several aunts, uncles, cousins, two nieces, a nephew, and countless friends.

“David was a beloved son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, fiancé, and friend who left a mark on so many,” reads his obituary.

David’s services were being held privately.

Donations can be made in David’s loving memory to the NJSH Pet Rescue (95 West Main Street, STE 5-226, Chester, NJ).

“Dave was truly one of the good guys,” reads a tribute on David’s memorial. “It was [a] blessing and a privilege to be his friend…He was always there to lend a hand or make you smile if you needed it… My prayers are with his family and other friends.”
